Capitalism Fuels Climate Catastrophe, Experts at NTUF Seminar Say
February 9, 2025KARACHI — The Ali Enterprises Factory Fire Affectees Association (AEFFAA) met with National Trade Union Federation Pakistan (NTUF) General Secretary Nasir Mansoor to discuss victim families compensation issues.
The association raised concerns about the International Labor Organization (ILO) Pakistan office transferring over $6 million in compensation funds to an insurance company without consulting workers or victims. They plan to seek legal advice from advocate Faisal Siddiqi.
They also discussed a case in the Sindh High Court, where factory owners are challenging group insurance payments despite a prior ruling in favor of workers. AEFFAA prepared their legal strategy for the next hearing on 3 March 2025.
AEFFAA announced a major protest in the third week of February to demand transparency from the ILO and accountability from factory employers for unpaid insurance payments. They aim to amplify their campaign both locally and internationally.
